INCREASED DRIVE PULLEY ?

Recommended Posts

COMMANDO1

Here is the question, i will be increasing the size of the drive pulley on my 72? commando 8 to give her a little more speed. If i increase the pulley from 4" to 6" does that mean the belt size also increases by 2"?

Also does anyone know the right belt length and part number?

How large would u guys go to speed up?

I not sure how much but your changing the circumference of the pulley where the belt rides from 12.56 inches to18.84 inches.

C161rat....i lookad at that post. i read that the trans pulley on the commando also had a 1" shaft w/larger pulley. Here is my thought swap trans pulley w engine pulley. should not have to change belt size, what do u think?

I would try it if thats the case...Just keep in mind that you may have to modify your belt guard.....I was going to do this on my 161 however to date have not done it......I had the same thoughts on not needing to buy a belt. I however dont have the luxury of having two pulleys with the same shaft size so i would have to purchase new pulleys for both sides.....

The Input shaft on the 4-speed tranny's is 3/4 diameter and your crank is 1" so swapping pulley wont work..
