Engine swap on C-175? Info Needed

Recommended Posts

Fordiesel69

Ok, the KT17 has a scored crank and a big hole which is not fixable.

So I located a 18hp briggs twin off of a GT-1848 which as a bit of a knock. A full rebuild kit is not much money and I can get the engine fairly cheap.

I need to know if the KT17 PTO assembly will fit onto the briggs. I also need to know if I can ditch the shaker plate and use the briggs mounting plate to go right direct to the frame. Anything else I should know about this swap?

Also is it worth my time going this route? A single 16HP K series / magnum is near impossible to find.

The Briggs has a 1" output shaft. A sleeve in the pto will fix that. You can probably remove the shaker plate without a problem. Drop the Briggs in there and see how it lines up with the frame holes. It's OK to drill new holes if necessary.

Yes it will bolt right in with the Briggs mounting plate, with out the shaker mount, be sure to get the PTO sleeve, be sure to get the drive pulley also, and if your 175 is a hydro, I hope the GT1848 is a hydro also, the hydro grive pulley for the 1" crank is a VERY hard to find item, if your 175 is a 8 speed you can get a pulley off a 8hp engine same with the PTO sleeve. you will have to do some wiring changes also, the Briggs has a magneto ign. the KT has batt. ign. the key switch is diff. for them, if you can get the wiring out of the GT, or better yet bring the tractor home to rob all the needed parts.
