When to apply decals

Recommended Posts

ezeastside

Finally back on my 312-8 restore.

The sheet metal was painted about a week and a half age.

When is the vaspar paint dry enough to apply decals?

It was restoration series with hardner added.

I like the off white wheel color better than the silver!

I'm with you on the wheel color. As soon as it's assembled you should be able to apply the decals.

Looks good. I waited about two weeks just to be safe. I also used the Restoration Series. Your wheels look great. I agree with your color choice.

I contacted Valspar's customer service about 2 years ago with the same question. Their answer was 30 days at normal drying temperature and humidity. I also asked them how long it takes for their paint to cure. The answer was 30 days. Seems like a pattern developing here, hmm?

wait, wait , wait just when it seems completely dry...wait. no rush as you apply the final touch to a great restore! no need to ruin paint and all the cursing. humid/hot/hazy weather. did I say wait? :D

That wait/cure time is one reason that I use acrylic urethane. Decals after 48 hours of normal drying, or if baked at 140 degrees for 40 minutes, you can apply them 20 minutes later.

When I had my parts painted. The painter told me 60 days. But he used 100% enamel.
