Save Old Iron 1,571 #4 Posted July 14, 2012 carbs atomize fuel in a precise air / fuel ratio. if you cut back on the fuel in the mixture (due to clogged or restricted passageways in the carb body), the mixture becomes too gas lean and the engine runs rough. Closing down the choke and restricting air entering the engine once again (roughly) balances out the fuel and air to a mixture ratio the engine can run on. rmaynard 16,343 #5 Posted July 14, 2012 Look for play in the throttle shaft area. If you have too much, air will be sucked down along the shaft and make the mixture too lean as well. A throttle shaft bushing kit is under $10.00 and while you have the carb apart to clean it, it's a good time to add the new bushing. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
