Sparky

Points are probably a good idea but I wouldn't rush out and buy a coil just yet. You might even get spark by just regapping them (points) and maybe hit em real easy with a points file to reface them.

Check your ground. I'm finishing a restification on a c121 a bud gave me. When it would start, it would pop and snort and not run worth a tinkers dam. While taking it apart, I found it grounded to the sheetmetal next to the battery, with rusted fasteners throughout the entire machine. While putting it back together I used star washers everywhere and ran a ground cable from the batt to the motor plate and now have no issues. :banana-tux:

There's also an electrical service manual on the Toro site that gives more detailed information about the electrical systems on this era of tractors. Look for a link to manuals there, and try entering 91-12K802 for the model number (that's a 1979 C-121 8-speed).
