My C-160 is haunted!!

Recommended Posts

A few weeks ago I was mowing and noticed the deck was in the raised position. I thought I had put it down. My wife was mowing last week (weeds) I saw the deck was up. I told her to put the deck down. She said she did. Today I was mowing more weeds. I got off to clean up some dog muffins. Got back on and the deck was up. :*****: I new I had it down. I put it back down and mowed some more and watched it. It stayed down. :confusion-scratchheadblue: I forgot to watch it when I went to the next yard. Started mowing and the stupid deck is up again! Darndest thing I ever saw. :scratchead: :jaw:

sounds like your valve is leaking threw letting it send fluid to the back port to raise the deck

Ok, now I'm really confused. I parked it in the garage and let the deck down like I always do. 2 hours later the deck is down but the indicator arm shows it's up :confusion-scratchheadblue: Everything is tight nothing flopping around. The lawn looks ok too like it was down the whole time.

I think you need to get rid of it right away, and being the nice guy I am, I'll be there tomorrow to take it off your hands. :ROTF: That really is a strange problem, and I don't have a clue what it could be, but my offer still stands. :ychain:

Your valve is coming apart inside the bore. I had this hapen on one of my 417's and it would raise the lift arm over time. I removed the back cap and tightened the bolt and all was good again.

Are you talking about the cap on the end opposite where the control lever attaches?

Yes, remove that and there should be a bolt behind that.I think its a 1/4" bolt with a 7/16" head. If that is tight and you still have the issue, I would say that you have a o-ring or warn valve issue. Tightening the bolt fixed mine.

I have a spare valve off a 73 auto and a 74 160. I removed the cap on the 73 and all I see is a spring with an allen bolt inside it. Is it just a different design?
