Another rectifier question

Ok, I know one of the first steps to making sure the r/r is working properly is making sure its grounded. But what makes it grounded? just being mounted to the tractor? cause these dont have ground wires. or is it through the ign switch?

When checking voltage off the B+ lug, to do this with vom you should have 1 end on the B+ lug and the other to the ground post of the battery? or somewhere else?

Following the steps along the way with the vom checking everything out to rule out the problem is the same way with one end of the vom on the ground and other end on source?

Sorry for the simpleton type questions here, but never was big on electrical systems on these or automotive. I can wire and understand household electrical pretty well but a bit different than this. It appears this type is not consider a closed loop system kind of thing. :eusa-think:

Mounted to the tractor through clean metal to metal contact is grounded. Star washers help cut through any oxidisation too.

Once the r/r is properly earthed you can use the heatsink case or battery ground terminal. I actually always use the battery as its the best point of reference.
