caseguy 2 #1 Posted July 8, 2012 I recently ran accross a slot hitch plow at a flea market. I believe that it's a 10" Wheel Horse plow, but there was an offset in the main beam about 3 or 4 inches back from where it would mount to the slot hitch. I should have gotten a picture and if it's still there tomorrow, I will. For now does this sound like any Wheel Horse plow that any of you have seen?
smoreau 658 #2 Posted July 8, 2012 Yes it does, but a pic would help a lot to make sure, The curve in the beam of the slot hitch is to make the plow level when the right side of the tractor is in the furrow.
caseguy 2 #3 Posted July 8, 2012 Here are the pics that I promised. Went back today and bought it. When I got it back to the truck, I had some time to study it and came to the following conclusions... 1) The standard was re-made at some point out of a piece of plate steel. The Person who did it was skilled, but it is obviously not stock. And... 2) The main beam started out in a different configuration than it's in now. It was modified (heated and hammered) to work with whatever they had to pull it with. All of this leaves me with no idea what the original shape the main beam was before the modifications though. I am abbout 90% sure that it's a Wheel Horse plow, or at least it started out that way. I would be interested to hear what everyone else thinks.
smoreau 658 #4 Posted July 9, 2012 It sure looks like mine. I would say that it is WH. with a few mods
Don1977 605 #5 Posted July 10, 2012 There isn't any sideways adjustment with a slot hitch and the furrorw has to be cut off to turn over. That is the reason for the offset. The bends look factory to me, if there are hammer dents maybe some hooked something and bent it . Then hammered it back in shape.
CasualObserver 3,411 #6 Posted July 11, 2012 I have an NOS beam... it's straight. I've never seen a WH beam with an offset like that. Keep in mind that Jacobsen had a slot hitch as well, so not every slot hitch attachment is automatically WH. Back then, their plows were made by Brinly. Shoot them the picture and see if they can tell you whether or not it's factory or modified, and/or which brand it was. Cant' really tell from the pics...is the hitch tab level with the plow, or angled from the beam? Should be angled so that when the tractor rides in the furrow, the plow can pull/cut level.
