Toro Wheel Horse 416xt

Plain and simple: Is the 416xt any good or is it a major compromise that does not really get the job done? Is it durable? Does it accept a full range of "classic attachments" or just a certain few?

A neighbor has a 300 hour unit for $2500. I think he is way high. Opinions please.

No it does not accept standard or classic wheel horse attachments because it has a verticle shaft engine. I also think $2500 is high also.

I have a 417XT, I have about 350 hrs on mine. I have not had any issues with it at all. When I bought mine new it was around $4200. I would not part with mine for $2500.It is by far the best WH I have mowed with and I've mowed with a 854,GT14, C120,C160,D180, C105, C195, 417A,516,520 w/ 48 and 60 and some others. Far more comfortable and ergonomic the any of the classic WHs by far, it has a 16 in turning radius also so if you have trees like me its a big plus also the hydro foot control is sweet.

It will take a C/300/400/500 series 48 deck, and maybe the 42's and the snow plow if you have the 520 extention on it but will need a to make the angle lever.

To much, not in my opinion.

42" deck, snow blade. I thought I read that this series was engineered to work with "classic attachments"? Or am I confusing the 416 with some other Toro Wheel Horse series that will take the classic attachments?

It does take classic attachments BUT you will have to get the kits or fab something up to make them fit.The XT series is a rugged tractor.

Is horsepower the only difference between the 416xt, 417xt, and 419xt? Are the frames and transmissions/drivelines all the same for the entire "xt" series?

yes the 416xt has 16 hp and mine has 19hp.the frames are all the same.the trannys are hydro gear and the 419xt has a 330 tranny vs the 416 which has a 320 hydrogear.they upgrades the frames and tranny from the older 260 series.I will caution you in that finding attachments for the XT series has been forever finding them.

The attachments like the snow blower and deck bagging system off a 260 series is a direct fit. I bought a 1995 266H and just for these attachents and then sold the tractor. I put the deck off my XT on my C160 just to see if it was the same and it went right on, just had to get a shorter belt than what my C160 uses with its 48" deck. The snow plow I use is off my C160 with a 520 extention and the angel lever I got from Toro or you can the complete adapter kit from Toro, if its still available, to use a classic series plow.

Granted there is not a lot of them out there, but can be found.

Please explain " Far more comfortable and ergonomic then any of the classic WH's by far." I understand you like the foot control, but whats better or what don't you like about Classic WH's. I have been on some very uncomfortable tractor mowers but Wheel Horses haven't been one of them. Don't want to start an argument, I would just like to know.

No problem I've been useing Wheel Horses for 24yrs and I have had a few and still do, and I like and use my classic tractors. But for serious seat time the XT/XI style machines would my pick.

They have more leg room, easier to get on and off, steers easier, faster and tighter turnig radius, steering wheel is set at a better angle( tilt steering), seat is positioned better for a better ride and less strain on my back, foot control is postioned better so my knee doesn't hurt after cutting grass for 1 1/2 hrs, and they are quiter.

Would I use the XT for heavy duty work, no that is what the others are for, but for cutting grass and light trailer duty it is my first tractor out of the garage.

I have a 416xt.  Tractor runs great, but I can't get the deck adjusted so it does not scalp the lawn when the deck is lowered. Local deal can't do it either without putting the drivetrain in to a bad twist.  Any ideas or approx value of the tractor alone?  Hood is there, but hinges are busted off. It does sit on the tractor.
