Duff 206 #1 Posted July 6, 2012 Hi, guys, The problem I've got is one I'm sure someone else here has experienced at some point, so I hope there's a reasonable "fix"! On my M-12 engine there is a plate that supports the air cleaner assembly and the crankcase breather vents through it. It attaches to the carb body with three small machine screws that are tapped into the carb body. You guessed it - I managed to overtighten and strip the threads out of one of the receiver holes. There's plenty of material thickness around the hole, so I was wondering if I could use a slightly larger diameter fine-thread self tapping screw or if I need to tap the hole out one size larger? Thoughts, suggestions and sympathy all welcomed! Duff
Sparky-(Admin) 23,245 #2 Posted July 6, 2012 I remember in your thread about mounting wheel weights you refered to yourself as "not exactly being a model of physical strength" didnt you? Apparently that was a lie ! But seriously. I dont see why you couldnt re-tap the threads a size bigger. Its only aluminum so it wont be tough. I dont think I would try to just force the next size up screw in it tho. Mike............
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,539 #3 Posted July 6, 2012 What Mike said or you can fill it with job weld or similar and then drill and tap. I personally would just us 2 holes and leave that one out. Not sure the reason for all three...

In fact I just gave that carb to one of the members here because he needed a couple of parts from it. Drill, and tap, or heli-coil. I really like heli-coils myself.
