horsecrazy red 1 #1 Posted July 5, 2012 Hi, I'm new to this site and relatively new to tractors. I purchased a 1976 Wheel Horse D250 a year ago and fell in love with it, warts and all. By warts I mean all the issues one can run into trying to keep an older tractor in good, servicable condition. Parts can be difficult to find, and I will be the first to admit that I'm not most mechanically-inclined. However, I'm willing to learn and this tractor has been teaching me plenty of lessons! My question is simple: What parts do I need to build a 3-pt hitch? I've looked at the diagram on the wall at TSC, but I could really use some help. And I apologize profusely for my ignorance. I'm sure there are some of you out there shaking your heads and saying, "this woman's got no business owning a tractor!" Thank you, Red
KC9KAS 4,744 #2 Posted July 5, 2012 I don't know if the 3pt lift on a D-250 is the same as other Wheel Horse 3pt lifts, but you can type in 3pt lift in the search box and you will find many threads on them, as well as some home-built lifts. Someone else will come along and give info on the D-250 lift needs. Oh, where are my manners....WELCOME TO RED SQUARE!
JUSS10 250 #3 Posted July 5, 2012 welcome to red square! for starters, you will probably have to decide how much work you want to put into this. unfortunately the only parts for this hitch you could buy off the sheft at TSC would be the top link, pins and spring clips. do you have pictures of the back of the tractor? sometimes half the parts are there. if there is already a lift arm, all you will need is a set of lower links and connecting rods which could possibly be had from another model of tractor. however, if there isn't anything on the tractor current and you aren't able to fabricate and weld (or know someone who can) your best bet would be to try and find a complete 3pt setup that is made for this exact model tractor. Unfortunately this can be difficult due to this tractors "rarety" and age. I would try and hop on ebay as i know 3pt hitches for other wheel horse tractors pop up there from time to time. Another thing, which may be a big help, is that the D250 is actually another tractor just branded as a wheel horse (if i remember correctly!) so if you find the other model that is the same as this tractor and i would think you could search for a hitch from that model as well to use. I just built a 3pt hitch from scratch for my wheel horse tractor and will be the first to say that it was a bit more complicated than i originally imagined, however, my tractor was never meant to have one. Whats not to like ?a woman that likes owning a tractor THAT would be a blessing to a lot of guys! We need pictures of the back of your tractor to know what you are working from next is do you really want a Cat 0 3 point or a sleeve hitch I think sleeve hitch attachments are easier to find in yard sales etc. and cheaper than Cat 0 stuff . knowing more about what you want to use your tractor for would help decide.Theres no reason a woman can't enjoy owning, working on and using a tractor as much as a man can ! their easier to work with than horses! I visit several garden tractor forums for attachment ideas so I can make attachments for lots of different tractors fit my needs there were only a few makers of Garden tractor attachments like Brinley for one they just put slightly different connections for different brands of tractors.
