1054josh 25 #1 Posted July 4, 2012 Recently purchased a B-80 got good deal on it. Bought a Laban model 425 sickle mower 48 inch cut of evil bay. Lol im trying to retro fit it to the B-80. Got it attached and lifting good only thing is I need a 152 inch v-belt Wichita I have to order Thursday no biggie. Buy my question is that I used a shorter belt which has it sitting was forward from where it needs to be but do all sickle mowers shake your molars out of their sockets? I have tried all different rpm and the best is just off idle. It seems to mow ok in first gear. O its only a three speed no high low selector. So is this it just the Laban mowers or do they all shat you out of your seat thanks josh
bowtiebutler956 650 #2 Posted July 4, 2012 I can't help with the sickle bar, but I love your B-80. My B-80 is hard working GT. I'll post a pic of it after its working class resto, but keep in mind it doesn't look that good any more, as it has logged many hours of work since. The B-80 is a great Horse, and yours looks to be in fantastic shape! Matt :flags-texas:

Hodge71 665 #4 Posted July 4, 2012 Habans are some smooth running sickle bars. I had the fortunate experience of using on on an SK-486 that I should have bought I have never heard of one rattling your teeth loose. They do have a small amount of inherent vibration due to their design but it definitely shouldnt require dental work every time you use it. You might have a bracket loose or maybe an alignment issue somewhere. Dont panic, it should be something simple
Kelly 1,033 #5 Posted July 4, 2012 Yes the factory WH will shake a tractor in the ground and you with it, buy a gel. pillow to set on when your mowing. not sure on the Haban
sorekiwi 761 #6 Posted July 4, 2012 I've never used a Haban, but my Wheel Horse one does shake you about a bit. I havent used mine in a year or two and have started to think I might sell it, but if I dont I think I am going to experiment a bit with Bellville washers at the attachment points to try and dampen some of the vibration. I have a crazy idea in my head for my sickle tractor - dual wheels on the mower side rear only, front and rear wheel weights on the other, an 8 speed with the pulleys tweaked a little to give the ideal groundspeed.. In a way I hope I sell it, I really dont need another project right now... :banghead:
1054josh 25 #7 Posted July 4, 2012 Curious if anyone knows what the speed should b of the mower? Was told that it might be running too fast and out of its harmonic
baerpath 517 #8 Posted July 4, 2012 Try here http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Haban/ Probobly is to fast also I see it's not centered. Mine didn't shake the tractor but you don't have a correct one either Duane
1054josh 25 #9 Posted July 5, 2012 thanks duane, can u explain more as far as the correct one? I am wondering if the centered is that referring to centered between front and rear wheels? if so its because the v-belt was to short but will order the length i need tommorrow. Or is the center you are referring to the mount centered between the right and left side of tractor? Again thanks to all info that everyone is given
1054josh 25 #10 Posted July 5, 2012 O the guy i bought the haban from said that he thinks it was for a bolens tractor. but again i dont know if this will make a difference since i have to fab all mounting brakes and lift and drive system. I just couldnt pass it up because it had never been used so its got no wear on any of the parts which in my opinion is totally awesome. Its just one less thing i have to repair
KC9KAS 4,744 #11 Posted July 5, 2012 I can tell you that a 6 foot mowing machine (sickle bar) on an Allis Chalmers agriculture tractor will shake your teeth out! I used one for many, many years mowing ditch banks and around the city lakes and waste stabilization lagoons. You have to run the mowing machine fast, and ground speed according to the amount of grass/weeds you are cutting. Tall weeds need to fall off and behind the bar or else it will start to ball up between the knives and the gaurds. Too fast of ground speed will cause the mower to NOT cut the grass/weeds and just push them over. I spent just about as much time working on this P.O.S as I did mowing with it!
