Callen 64 #1 Posted July 1, 2012 Still have this oil leak. Coming out of the vent hole on the back of the pump. Everything seems to be working as it should. CC breather seems to be pulsing, no oil blowing out, Runs great. Early 520H I replaced the pulse hose and noticed that there was another covered fitting near the oil sending unit. Mine was connected to a fitting right behind the flywheel. Wonder if it is connected to the wrong fitting? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

MalMac 1,332 #5 Posted July 1, 2012 I had a 520 that had an oil leak I had trouble finding. At first I thought it was the oil sending unit. Come to find out it was the gasket that the oil filter mounting base bolts on to the block. It was sending oil everywhere. The flywheel would even pick it up and send it out where the fuel pump mounts to the shroud. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Callen 64 #6 Posted July 2, 2012 Craig, Yes on the top fittings. One is capped. The extra one on the Bottom isn't open. MalMac, That was my original thought too. sorekiwi 761 #7 Posted July 3, 2012 My 520 had an oil leak from somewhere around the filter, I finally decided to change the gasket underneath the filter housing and that seems to have taken care of most of it. However mine blows a little oil out from the fuel pump like Callens does. I havent been worried enough about it to try and fix it though. AMC RULES 37,196 #8 Posted July 3, 2012 The pump on my '88 is different, in that it only has one line coming out from the bottom of it. I'm wondering if your pump has been replaced at some point? Looking down from above, next pict shows I unscrewed my pump and pulled it away from the housing. Callen, your's has this line hooked up to the back of the pump, as per the parts manual? Callen 64 #9 Posted July 4, 2012 Yes, Craig, mine has that line under the shroud. I replaced it because I thought it was probably rotten and cracked but it was ok. This is a replacement engine. I'm not sure if it was just reblocked or the whole engine was replaced. There is 2 fittings on the block behind the shrouds, one capped like the outlet on the pump, the other has the hose to the pump. The capped one is close to the oil senser, the other closer to the flywheel. I can't find any detailed pic of which one it is supposed to be hooked to. I suspect one of those fittings may be for a oil pressure gauge that some other application for this engine might use. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
sorekiwi 761 #10 Posted September 18, 2012 Callen, I dont know if you have fixed your problem or not in the last few months. But for sh!ts and giggles just try blocking off that open port on your fuel pump. I too had an open port and I bocked it off with a 2" piece of fuel line with a 1/4" bolt jammed in it.
