WH Raider10 17 #1 Posted June 28, 2012 Hello WheelHorse friends, Today I bought the nicest wheelhorse you can probably find in Belgium! I waited a long time for this day as the tractor was on my wanted list. So I bought a very nice commando 8 with excellent mowing deck. It's quite rare to find one with the white decals. It sat in a guy his garage for two years. I brought her home, checked for oil, added gas and a good battery. Turned the key and started right up! I love the sound when it turns over with that startmotor/generator with belt. What I did is I changed the sparplug cable and made some minor adjustments to the carb, I love how it idles! It also came with slot hitch with a trailer adapter in it and a great mowing deck. It was almost never used and you can see it. An extra bonus where the almost new ag tires! Also the seat is in mint condition! I don't plan on restoring it for now, I want to keep it original and just do the necessary cleaning and maintenance. I'm missing some small ods and ends but I'll find those eventually. Like greascap for mowing deck, hub caps, throttle and chooke cable, heat shield for top of engine head,... Question: Does the red generator light has to light up when the engine is running? It doesn't burn at all and I'm not sure if it's broken or the generator is not charging...? Well that's all for now and because you all like pics, here ya go fella's! P-J

bowtiebutler956 650 #4 Posted June 28, 2012 Very solid looking Commando!! I believe the generator light should only come on if its not charging, but I could be wrong. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Congratulations!! Matt :flags-texas:

Trouty56 567 #10 Posted June 29, 2012 The light is like an idiot light...it comes on if there is a problem with the charging system. Glad you found it. That is a great looking machine.....can definitely tell the usage of a tractor by the seat and that seat is beautiful....
Kelly 1,033 #11 Posted June 29, 2012 Check to see if the bulb is burnt out, it should come on with the key on tractor not running, and when charging it should go out, take care of that seat, they are hard to find over here I bet even harder over there. WH Raider10 17 #12 Posted June 29, 2012 Thanks guys for the great comments! Kelly, the light does not light up when I turn the ignition on. Is it possible that it's burned out? Can I find a new (used) one easily? I'll take care of that seat for sure! I like the way it sits, much better that on my 312-8. Over all this is the coolest wheelhorse I've ever owned. The way it turns really short and wow does that thing hauls ass! Like riding a gocart at full throttle. Also the sound of the k-181 is something different from a k241 or up. It idles real nice but you can rev it up like hell! It does blow some white smoke from time to time but what ya want with a 44 year old engine. But when you look at the deck and overal condition and steering I can see it isn't been used much. Is it hard to find an original cigaret lighter for the commando 8? It now has the plug in it.
