snow blower main sprocket wear

Recommended Posts

bean

I picked up a snowblower that is in really good shape. the bearings are tight and just has a little paint flaking. it is a 36" for a tach-a-matic. no model number on it. I got it fairly cheap, so if I have to do some fabbing, I can.

the good: the small sprockets and pulleys are in great shape.

the bad: the main auger sprocket is worn about 50%. the points of the teeth are worn down. suprisingly, I cant get the auger to skip or even rock back and forth much.. how far can the sprocket be worn, and still be usable? I am pretty confident I can cut off the and weld on a replacement sprocket

if so, I would like to do it before I need it. :)

I know guys have bought new gears from places like McCarr, or Fastenal, and replaced them, I buy my little drive gears from Fastenal, not sure on what the big gear cost but I'm sure it's not to bad.

kelly,

I found a source for the sprocket. is it a 40 ansi chain? or 35? I went back through a few searches, and it looks like it is 40.

I agree. after switching the main sprocket, it should be in good shape.

it is only a 36", but maybe that will be a blessing with just 10hp.
