Wheelhorse Show Prices

I don't want to hit the hornet nest, but I was at the Wheelhorse show this past Saturday and was surprised at the high prices of some of the tractors, parts and implements for sale. IHMO, some of the stuff was junk, but had high prices on it. I spoke to another member and this jumped out at him too. I had a certain $$$ figure I wanted to spend for a tractor w/ or w/o deck and found nothing close to it. I did a Craigslist search and found in the area an IH Cub Cadet hydro, with 44 inch deck and snow blade for $300 and brought it home. Tractor runs good and sheet metal is straight.

Anyone else think prices at the show were a little on the high side?

On another note, I met some old faces from the past - great to see everyone kicking.

The show was, as always, very nice and even though I bought a Cub Cadet, I really had my sights set on a Wheelhorse.

Just some thoughts.

there were alot of good deals at the show. some stuff was kinda high i thought.

ya i thought a lot of the prices were high too.

some would deal but most wouldn't.

and yes lots of what i would call project tractors (needed parts or didn't run) that had prices of $400-$550.

i got lucky on Thursday and grabbed a c-160 auto in very good condition with a deck for $500.

i sold the deck there for $75 so the tractor cost me $425.

Even though the show is officially Friday and Saturday, Thursday and just before the raffles on Saturday are the best time to get good deals. I thought that the prices were consistent with years past. People want too much for too little. However, I also found that when it came to tractors, most sellers will dicker if you push them. I was looking for a running hydro to buy for the grandkids. I kept going back to look at an Electro 12 that was $300.00. I was on my way to make an offer of $200.00 when I passed a trailer with a Charger 10 (K241S) on it. No 'for sale' sign, but I asked and it was for sale. I picked it up for $75.00 plus $15.00 for a practically new battery. All it needed was a carburetor cleaning.

So I would say that I got a good deal.

Some guys bought early for short money then tried to sell on Friday and Saturday for a few bucks more. I got good deals on Thursday and just kept my stuff or offered it to other members for break even.

I thought there were some good deals there, but they definitely run higher out east then here in the Midwest. I walk away from the high guys that won't deal. I was looking at a WH aireator 2 years ago..he wanted $175...the same aireator showed up at the Charlotte, Mich. show for the same price. No dealing...he took it home again...bought a new one for $100. I think he paid too much for it in the first place, and was not going to lose money. His piece was worth $75...hang it on your wall dude...sorry. I did not see him or it this year. Lesson...do not pay more then it is worth...they will get tired of hauling that stuff to the show every year...hope. :) :)

I was a little surprised at some of the prices myself. I was selling a very nice original 551 Suburban WITH front mount reel mower for far less than some of the less "quality" machines. It took awhile to sell mine. I think mine was one of the best complete original condition round hoods there that I saw for sale.

On another note, there were still quite a few deals to be had, you just had to do a little diggin. I look at it this way, people can ask whatever they want for a tractor but at the end of the day if their wares were overpriced and didn't sell I ain't the one that has gotta load em up and drag em back home. If they don't sell at the BIG SHOW where are they gonna sell?

There was a very nice restored (but not overdone) 753 for sale with asking price of 600 obo. If I had room on my trailer I would bought that tractor. Well worth the money.

I wasn't there, but someday I would like to attend...even if I can't afford to buy anything!

I saw that 753 along with you Steve. It was real nice with a rebuilt motor. That was a deal and I know you would have grabbed it if one of us had the room. I guess everyone thought 600 was overpriced?

Lets look at this way, if there is any place you may be able to move a WH item, its going to be at the show. So why wouldn't you add a little bit?

Let face it gang, most of us have a decent collection and just are not willing to pay as much as we were a few years ago. Most of us do not need another horse but may want another. I will pay a lot less for something I want rather than something I need. Most prices were a bit high, but you do have to pay for the convenience of having a large selection at one place. Best advise is have fun shopping and dont spend more than you can afford. Just be thankful we have some horse fans willing to put on a show.

That is not what is going on. Almost all the people there are WHCC members (it is their show) and I am a member, and a large percentage of those at the show are RS members and WHCC members at the same time. It is just the best place to buy and/sell Wheel Horse parts, and everyone knows it. If you need it...you can find it there....can't beat that.
