fourwheels0 191 #1 Posted June 24, 2012 i picked up this nice c-160 auto at the show this year. it's missing the id tag but it's either a 73 or 74. i got a great deal on it considering what i saw and my budget. runs great, hydro is strong. i'm a happy camper. and yup the seat springs are on backwards lol
Sparky-(Admin) 23,266 #2 Posted June 24, 2012 Looks great! I didnt realize that the C-160 could be had with an electric clutch, unless its something that was added by the previous owner . I see the holes where a manual PTO lever would have been tho. Mike............
varosd 1,185 #3 Posted June 24, 2012 looks great Fourwheels0!! what day did you snag it? that is exactly my next WH purchase ("No Honey, just posting on RS...am I looking for another "lawn mower"? Oh no, you know I wouldnt do that!" ).
massey 119 #4 Posted June 24, 2012 Looks good, love those C 160's. :laughing-rofl:
fourwheels0 191 #5 Posted June 24, 2012 "varosd" i got it Thursday. i went last year on Friday and all the "deals" were gone so this year i made sure i got there Thursday early lol. nothing against anyone selling this year but i saw lots of real rough tractor's for the same money or more than what i got mine for. "sparky" i'm not sure but i think the electric pto may have been an option. i see there is another 73 in the model/year thread that looks just like mine. 546cowboy 302 #6 Posted June 24, 2012 I had a '73 16 Auto that had an electric clutch but there were no holes there for a manual PTO that I remember. Sure hated to sell that tractor but when you need the cash to complete your other projects??????????????
fourwheels0 191 #7 Posted June 24, 2012 ok here's the details i got from the seller. motor completely rebuilt last year new starter new battery new carburetor some new hydro hoses new bulbs front and rear. new seat it also came with a fairly nice 42 inch side discharge deck, belt and mule drive. i sold that at the show as i don't mow with my horses. after all was said and done i got the tractor for ..... wait for it........................................................................$425!!!!!!
Sparky-(Admin) 23,266 #8 Posted June 24, 2012 after all was said and done i got the tractor for ..... wait for it........................................................................$425!!!!!! Well thats great price! Sounds like it doesnt need anything! How perfect is that? Mike............
fourwheels0 191 #9 Posted June 24, 2012 oh and i put the c-160 automatic decals on it so i'm "calling" it a 74. i think but i'm not sure the 73's had the hydro lever in the center and not on the side. somebody correct me if i'm wrong. either way i'm happy with it the way it is. sparky it still needs the center plate cover but that's it. it needed 1 footrest brace but i got that. CRE1992 135 #10 Posted June 24, 2012 And are you gong to keep this one? OR sell it like you did all the other ones you had!!!!! Lol Nice Buy! -Charles
rmaynard 16,350 #11 Posted June 24, 2012 C-160 was not made in 1973. First issue was 1974. 1974 and 1975 had hood ornaments, '76 and '77 didn't. So if you call it a '74, you will probably be at least 50% correct. Nice tractor. I saw it.
fourwheels0 191 #12 Posted June 24, 2012 And are you gong to keep this one? OR sell it like you did all the other ones you had!!!!! Lol Nice Buy! -Charles LOL well hopefully i'm done with buying and selling. as long as the hydro treats me well i'm good. plus it will be nice having the hydro lift. i think i need to switch gears and buy and sell other brands so i can get a bunch of implements and just enjoy this one.

squonk 43,926 #14 Posted June 24, 2012 Hard to say what's what after all the years go by and the Horses change hands a few times. The 73 Auto hulk I got had the "Nut Banger" shift lever. The 76 C-160 I have has the hood ornament and It has a flip seat fender pan that it's not supposed to have. Glad you got a deal Mike. I take it the folks showed up to haul it,although I'd like to see a Grand Maquis heading down the road with a big Horse hanging out the back! :ychain:
Kelly 1,033 #15 Posted June 24, 2012 I'd say you did well on the deal, the 73 16 auto had the DCL between your legs, the 74-75 tractors have the flip up fenders, the 76-77 tractors have the solid mount fenders and just the seat flips up, the solid fender style you can put a tiller lift rockshaft on, but it is not the same as the 78 up tiller rockshaft, and I have seen the autos with the electric clutch on them, as for the holes in the dash tower I'm going to say they all have them. Retired Wrencher 5,835 #16 Posted June 24, 2012 :USA: Nice find 4/wheels I hope you enjoy the tractor it should take care of you for the rest of your life. these 16 are hard to find up here in that shape. Gary B..................

varosd 1,185 #18 Posted June 24, 2012 nice tractor! I love the early Cs before they went to the multi-color chunky hood. nice, sleek look. super clean too! come to think of it, there wasnt a lot of Blackhoods at the Big Show. or maybe I missed them? might have been Stevasarusus's Rock and Rye kicking in ! . Sparky-(Admin) 23,266 #19 Posted June 24, 2012 There were a few Black Hoods including the one I brought that my son tooled around on. They were only a 4 year run so that might make them harder to come by where as the older style C was about a 7 year run (1973-1979) with a few still being made in 1980 and 1981 as specials or anniversary models. I've said this before but they are my favorite hood style, but I'm not a fan of the plastic rear fender. I've swapped all my plastic fenders to metal ones on my Black Hoods. I bet I've owned 10 of em over the years and still have 2 in my crew right now. Mike...........

520HC 208 #21 Posted June 24, 2012 .Actually there were some later 16 Autos with the DCL on the side. Check out **** Mc Neil's famous 16 Auto, it has the side lever.
