hi guys, i'm working on a 414-8 with the horizontal muffler. muffler is directly above pto. the pto trunnion has to be installed from the bottom going up. yet it just seems to me i always see them going in from the top down. is there a correct direction for installation??? thanks you. mike in mass..

Off the top of my head, I dont remember which way it goes on my 520. But I do know that if you put it the wrong way around it binds up the linkage at some point in its travel.

on my 77 B-80 it's on the top. my 520 had it on the top but in previous thread and right there in the owners manual it is from the bottom. as long as it doesnt bind, stays engaged and it has free travel, not sure how critical it is.

All depends how hot the muffler is when I install mine. Dont think it matters much on my 300s or c160.

with the horizontal muffler you have to go up from bottom or it will hit the muffler

My 416-H has it going up from the bottom. As can whlvr says, it will hit the muffler otherwise.

I have a 414-8 and have always installed it from the bottom. Mine came with two washers on it as well, to lower the rod even further. That setup has worked perfectly for me, although the thing still gets hot as blazes from the muffler... let it cool down before working on the PTO...
