Hi Bill,

I see no one commeneted on your post so I'll start a hornets nest if my statements are wrong but.....................

I believe you need to swap out the front axle with one that will receive the HD spindles. I also think it would require changing out other front end/steering parts as well. (Not sure on that one). My 520-H has the heavy-duty front spindles from the factory ready for an FEL if I could ever find one that isn't already attached to a beaten' down tractor for a reasonable price. (Two back surgeries and at 55 years of age, an FEL would be a most welcome addition around here).

I too have a C-175 with the stock spindles like almost all our tractors have. They just can't take the extended use of an FEL over time! I have also seen a few WH tractors over the years with ovaled front axle spindle ends where I knew someone at one time had either an FEL or a 2-stage blower on that tractor for an extended amount of time.

I would look for a complete 520 gear-reduction steering assembly/front-end for your C-175. This would eliminate the spindle issues and give you much easier steering with that bucket.

They are available if you keep an eye out for them.

Now if you ever want to get rid of that FEL.........

Good Luck!

Somewhere on this site I have seen a picture of the HD spindles, but I cant find it now. It is basically a standard spindle with a gusset added, similar to the gusset on the bigger 520 spindles.

I have read about people bending and breaking the HD spindles too, so it may not be the solution to your problem anyway. I think they are NLA as well, so it would be hard to find a set.

A 520 front axle swap would probably be the easiest swap, there is plenty of information on here if you decide to go that way.

I have a loader project that is very slowly getting done as I find the time and spare cash. I decided to go with a front axle and spindles from a John Deere 317. It is very heavy duty, uses 1" spindles, and I'm going with trailer hubs and tapered roller wheel bearings.

I think the heavy duty ones are 1" diameter and the standard are 3/4" but I could be wrong. I've welded gussets on my 3/4"axles to make them stronger but I don't have a FEL, I just liked the idea of extra bracing on the spindles. I used a piece of angle iron and cut about a 2" piece and then cut some slots out of it so it would fit around the axle and welded it all up. If you decide to make your own let me know and I can take some pictures to help.

There are two types of HD spindles. One is the spindle that came on the 520 with the forward swept front Axel. The other is a HD spindle that was offered as an option to the customer that had a FEL. The one that was offered as a option was the same size as a standard spindle but is was also used with a different rim that had a lager more HD bearing in it. If you convert over to the forward swept axle and spindles you must also change tie rods. The conversion that sorekiwi is doing looks like a good set up and probably even better than the 520 axle. I use a FEl on a C141 and have the HD axle kit on it. I have bent a spindle but it was my own fault. I simple was over working the tractor with too much weight. If you use the tractor and loader for what it was designed to do and take your time things should be just fine until you reach the point at which parts start wearing out. That s's just inevitable. Every machine has a breaking point. Even big Cat D8's I know from experience. Too over work one is really easy. I myself have to remember that a Wheel Horse with a FEL on it is just that a garden tractor not big Articulated FEL. But darn it's hard sometimes.

Looks like I got carried away sorry. I think the HD spindles were still offed that las I looked. But who know Toro discontinues on a Dalila basis.
