bluetuna08 0 #1 Posted July 15, 2008 yesterday she ran and started fine. today she wont start. turns over...crank and crank and crank but not start. I pulled the spark plug and it was dry after a lot of cranking. I think it has spark. when I bought it the guy said it does this sometimes and he had the fuel pump replaced. has anyone else expirienced problems such as this. I dont think fuel is getting to the combustion chamber. thanks - matt
WheelHorse_of_course 99 #2 Posted July 15, 2008 Most likely problem is debris in the tank clogging the screen. Also, if there is an external filter check that. If it still does not work take the line from the fuel pump to the carb off and see if you can spurt gas from there. Good luck, you WILL figure this out! Old Dave 0 #3 Posted July 15, 2008 Take the plug out and give it a shot of WD40 or starting fluid and if it fires up and dies, then you know it's got spark and not getting fuel.
bluetuna08 0 #4 Posted July 16, 2008 I figured it out! I have a clear fuel line on the tractor and when I was cranking the engine over to see if it had spark...which it does because I got a nice shock ...I saw an air buble go floating by at its leasure. when I looked closer at the fuel pump area I saw a void in gasoline just before the pump intake. I removed the fuel line from the petcock on the gas tank and blew really hard and I heard a gurgling sputtering sound. which I think tells me I have a hole in my fuel line. I replaced the fuel line, put a cinder block on the clutch, jumped the seat switch and watched the line near the fuel pump. sure enough AIR BUBBLES! I blew on the fuel line again after removing from the petcock valve again and turned the engine over....FIRED RIGHT UP! I will buy a new fuel line tonight and finally get to test out the down pressure on my blade.
Duff 206 #5 Posted July 16, 2008 put a cinder block on the clutch Just a hopefully helpful thought - when I have to work alone (most of the time) on my tractor and need to hold the clutch down, I put a ratchet strap around it and the front axle......... Glad you got the fuel situation figured out! Cheers! Duff B)
bluetuna08 0 #6 Posted July 16, 2008 the ratchet strap is a good idea!! flip flops and cinder block do not mix. B)
MaineDad 87 #7 Posted July 16, 2008 Bungey cord works too. Glad you got her going. I always change all the fuel lines and filters when purchasing a used tractor. Saves a lot of grief.
