Will G 3 #1 Posted June 12, 2012 Went to start my c-111 the other day to run it for a few to keep the battery charged while it is waiting on tranny work and it would not crank when I turned the key to the start position. All the safety switches have been disabled on the tractor so I know it is not a safety switch issue. When I turn the key I can hear the solenoid clicking but the starter is not activating. The starter was replaced in the fall with a genuine briggs and stratton starter. I can use a jump pack and activate the starter and it will crank fine. Agreed with a bad solenoid? Ken B 3,175 #2 Posted June 12, 2012 Will, try jumping the solenoid with a jumper wire. If she turns over more than likely bad solenoid. The contacts get corroded in there.

JackC 617 #4 Posted June 12, 2012 I have seen it all, bad solenoid, bad switch, bad connections, weak battery, battery terminals. Often cleaning all contacts solved the starting issues for me. A volt meter is very helpful to isolating to the problem. Some starters need a full 12+ volts to spin the engine, I have seen where 11.5 would not do it on some. Start from the battery with clean terminals and work out from there looking for 12v+ along the way. Or measure the voltage at the starter and work back. Will G 3 #5 Posted June 12, 2012 I have power coming out of the solenoid to the starter and now it works. I guess I will replace the cable from the solenoid to the starter as it seems kinda iffy.
Kelly 1,033 #6 Posted June 13, 2012 Be sure you have a good ground on the engine and the solenoid.
