Don1977 605 #5 Posted June 12, 2012 Should fit but it will be tight, did it on a C-120. You'll need to raise the engine 3/4" to get the crank shaft in the right position. I used a 3/8" plate with two 1/2"x2" bars under it. You'll also need a 1" pulley and electric PTO if you plan to work it. I had my pulley bored out sleeve down to 1" and keyed and using a sleeve on the shaft for the 1 1/8" manuel PTO and the same lenght drive belt as was used with the Kolher. Mine's a 18 HP Vanguard your's should be the same size but I believe it's a 21 haven't every seen a 20.
SNYFIX 13 #6 Posted June 12, 2012 Since you have the motor we'd say install it !! You can always take it back out if the tranny turns out to be bad -- If you didn't have the motor and was considering buying one we'd be saying "proceed w/caution" because of unknown condition of the tranny ---
MarkPalmer 81 #7 Posted June 12, 2012 Do you have the original blown engine, etc? Reason I ask is it's harder to find the needed accessories for a specific tractor for a K series Kohler than it is to find a good rebuildable block at a reasonable price. I know you have something to repower with, but it will involve quite a bit of farting around to make it happen. On a GT14, I think the Kohler engine is what really makes the look and style of the tractor and a repower with a Vanguard will look kind of corny. But if you just want a work horse and don't care about the look, then the Vanguard would make a great repower option. -Mark-
