Leaking fuel shut off valve

Recommended Posts

1973auto12

Just recently the fuel shut off valve started leaking something on the odor of one drop per second when open. Do these wear out with time and need to be replaced, or is there a fix?

Looking at it now, there is the small rubber seal gasket. Just replace that or the entire petcock valve? There is some play in the threads.

A new grommet and shutoff valve is pretty cheap. they have them on ebay or at toro. was like 15 bucks for both from dealer near me If I remember right. you'll want a new grommet for sure when replacing the shutoff. assuming you're talking the common tank under the rear pan, not familiar with other ones

Thanks, yeah replaced it with a plastic one for $6. Seems good. Would have been nice to keep it original though. I'd be interested if there is an OEM style frame mounted replacement that anyone knows of. Thx again.

If your talking about the one on the 12 auto, it bolts to the side of the dash tower, I have rebuilt them with good sucsess, if you remove the nut and knob you will find a O ring replace it and put it back together, I have found new ones but I can't remember where right this min.

That's exactly what I was wondering. I will look for an o ring. The original looks much better than the plastic one ziptied on. Thanks.
