Help with 1962 model 502 wheelhouse that was my grandfathers

Recommended Posts

padruglawyer

I inherited an orinigal 1962 wheel horse model 502 from my grandfather's estate. It is in good shape except the rear tires are severely dry rotting. I went to a local lawn and garden parts store and they could not help me locate rear tires for my tractor. I would like to find all four tires and replace them all at once. Can anyone help me find tires?

Try plugging your tire sizes into the ebay search window, and see what happens.

:WRS: I'm just north of you in Clinton County. You should be able to get tires for your 502 at almost any tire dealer. Most of the dealers in our area, (State College to Williamsport), have suppliers that they buy from that have specialty tires for sale. One thing to look out for is the condition of the rims. We don't have the benafit of having dryers on our home compressors and over a long period of time, adding moist air can cause a lot of corrosion on the rims. When you get those tires off the rims, make sure you don't have any soft or weak spots on them. Good luck with your tractor. Keep it running!

You havent told us what style of tire you are looking for, I'm not positive what they came with from the factory.

Mine came to me with Silvertowns on the front, which are NLA but Carlisle makes a similar looking 4.00-8.0 that is readily available. My rears were "Wheel Horse" branded turfs, which I also think you can get a similar style from Carlisle.

I am looking for a turf tire. It looks like the existing tires are turf tires. I did find on eBay a pair that comes with new rims for $279. Does this sound reasonable?

Sounds a little pricey to me.

Way too much money for those e-bay tires and rims...check to see if you have a Lincoln Tire near you also. How about some pictures of that 502, it is one of my favorites. BTW...welcome to Red Square. :) :) :)
