pfrederi 18,711 #1 Posted June 7, 2012 Looking around the herd i need to replace 4 or 5 gas caps on plastic tank models. Plastic lenses are either cracked or so discolored you can' see through them, some have bad gaskets. At 15-20 bucks a piece that is an expensive operation. I really do not need gas gage caps. Any one found a reasonable priced source for a plain old gas cap???
KATO 115 #2 Posted June 7, 2012 I bought a cap from "the part connection" on e-bay.He has all different kinds. A plain 2 14 inch thread size cap from kimpex was 5.00 (non-vented). you just need to know your thread size . i drilled mine for venting. Mine wasnt for my tractor but alot of them are the same including snowmobiles. If yours has the gauge it may well be 2 14 inch. You could try any snowmobile dealer too. Callen 64 #4 Posted June 7, 2012 I got one from a early model 20 Briggs. It vents under the edge.
Moparfanforever 886 #5 Posted June 8, 2012 If you have a Menards in your area , i bought several of them , i think they were like $5.00 apiece. My WM has the same brand of gas caps , but they were $1.50 higher.
Kelly 1,033 #6 Posted June 8, 2012 I pull them off junk MTDs and Craftsmans and other brands at the junk yard, most all brands interchange that have the big cap.
ol550 830 #7 Posted June 8, 2012 I have been using the Prime Line 704918. Avaliable at most parts stors like O'Reilly, NAPA, and Carquest. Like them because the vent can be closed for storage, don't loose as much fuel due to evaporation. Just don't forget to open it when using the tractor or you have a power loss after about 30 min.
