1969 Raider 12 Trouble Starting

Hi folks, I've got a 1969 Raider 12 with the Kohler K301 engine. I've just bought a new battery for it, and I've got power, as the headlights work when I turn the key and flip the switch. However, when I go to start it, the engine will not crank. Anyone have an idea of why this might be?

I have not yet. What should I look for when I check it?

check for power going to the starter. if theres no power going to the starter then the starter wont crank the motor

Well, now the craziest thing has happened. I just went to try again for the heck of it, and, without doing anything, it now cranks! Still won't start completely, but at least some progress!

Check that your safety switches, (if still present), are not "open". Take the battery out and fine file and re-connect every single electrical connector on that tractor. Also look for bad grounds. (Motor and frame).

These are the super easy "look see's" and account for many electrical issues on just about any tractor.

Your issue if not one of the easy ones can range from a bad soleniod, bad spot on your starter. A bad key switch. Etc.

Start easy and work your way out from there.

Had my neighbor come help me out today, and we got it to fire and run without any problems! Turns out I didn't have the fuel valve open ( I'm an idiot) A Triumph Bonneville pipe as an exhaust gives it a nice sound :D

lesson 1 learned

To make tractor move

1. Fill with fuel

2 . Turn fuel valve to on

3. Sit on tractor

4. Put into gear

5. give left or right hand signal

6. Move off.

Only yesterday did i put some fuel in the tank then go to start . NOTHING

stripped down Carb

cleaned jets etc etc

guess what i did

i put fuel in the tank that was so old

anyway good to hear you are now running
