bluetuna08 0 #1 Posted July 14, 2008 I am wicked excited...I just bought my first wheel horse (I have wanted one for years!) my wife gave me permission when I found one in uncle henries. the important stuff...it is a 1994 toro wheel horse 312-8 with the plow blade and 42" rear discharge mower deck wheel weights and chains...I think I got a deal at $800!! my question is this...is the blade just for snow or can one push more with it such as loam or sand. I pushed mulch with it yesterday and it did a great job in low range. I would like to know others expirience. I am also looking for leads on a 3 point hitch. I dont mind if I have to make it myself but would appreciate any input. thanks.
combatmp29r 27 #2 Posted July 14, 2008 Bluetuna let me be the first to say As far as the blade goes yes you can push about anything with it. I have pushed gravel, dirt and of course snow with mine. I know a guy that uses one to push cars around at his auto shop. Now the 3 point. None was made for the 300 series like you have. You can make one, and I'n sure Gator (kpinnic) will jump in here soon about the one he made on his Bronco14. I do have a question reguarding it for you. Do you plan to manually lift it, or were you thinking of adding hydrulics to the tractor? Oh and congrats on your first Horse
kj4kicks 154 #3 Posted July 14, 2008 B) You picked up a nice machine there, that will give you years of great service. Joel covered your questions, but I just wanted to say HI !
Teddy da Bear 11 #4 Posted July 14, 2008 I also wanted to say "welcome to the forum". And I love this statement you made my wife gave me permissionHow many of us have started out with that situation?? Thank the good Lord we have understanding wives!
bluetuna08 0 #5 Posted July 14, 2008 I was thinking along two lines. one was to lift the hitch with the deck/blade lift thats on the left side of the 312. second was thinking about rigging a porto power hydraulic unit as a means to lift implements. any thoughts? thanks a lot for the cheers! T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,610 #6 Posted July 14, 2008  You picked up a fine machine. As for what can you use the snow plow, Joel covered it pretty good. Just remember, it's not a dozer, but it does a good job on loose stuff. Again, welcome to the site and to Wheel Horses. B)
combatmp29r 27 #7 Posted July 14, 2008 OK I guess I lied and I have one more question for you. What type of implememnts are you wanting to use? I ask this because you can get almost anything to go behind your tractor in sleeve hitsch format rather than 3 point. Wheel horse made a sleve hitch that fits your tractor. We have quite a few threads on here about installing on, let me see if I can find one.
combatmp29r 27 #8 Posted July 14, 2008 OK found a couple of the threads on the rear sleeve hitches thisone has a good picture of what the sleeve hitch looks like Thisone breaks down all the parts that are in the setup and how it all goes togethor Now if you just want a 3 point because they look cool than of course more power to you. Either way we will help you get it installed and working the best we can. Oh and the sleeve hitches can be got on ebay all the time.

bluetuna08 0 #10 Posted July 14, 2008 well...since I will probably be posting on here with a lot of questions, pictures, and dumb stuff I just did you mind as well call me matt...rather than bluetuna (which is the nickname of my f-150. I found the P/N on the sleeve hitch and that looks like the ticket for me right now. looking cool is awesome...but what is really awesome is working the WHEEL HORSE! so I will probably for-go the 3 pt for now. thanks for the help - Matt
kpinnc 14,651 #11 Posted July 14, 2008 You can make one, and I'n sure Gator (kpinnic) will jump in here soon about the one he made on his Bronco14. OK, OK, you twisted my arm... Bluetuna08, Welcome to Redsquare! I will tell you first of all that sleeve hitch implements are much easier to find, and much cheaper when you do, that Cat 0 three point implements. And, sleeve hitch implements can be used without adding hydraulics. All you need is the cable (which you can easily fab yourself for $10), and the little bellcrank thingy that mounts under the 300 series fuel tank. As Joel said about clevis hitches, they show up on Ebay fairly often. I would also tell you that while nothing is impossible (just check out some of the modifications on this site!), the 300 series machines don't make the best candidates for a 3 point hitch. You'd probably have to cut the fender at least, and then you'd have the fuel tank to contend with under the seat. Since the tank supports also hold up the seat, You'd have some structural changes to work out as well. If you do however, already have a plan for how you're gonna do it, then it is certainly a welcome topic! And we love pictures! Kevin
Stigian 1,234 #12 Posted July 14, 2008 B) Matt You picked a great WH for your first one, 312-8's are great workhorses and can put up with all the abuse (sorry) work you can throw at them
Buzz 502 #13 Posted July 14, 2008 Welcome to Red Square Matt. Anyone who uses the word in their first sentence will definitely fit in B)
bluetuna08 0 #14 Posted July 14, 2008 well I was going to add pictures but my wife has this expensive camera that I dont know how to use! I went outside today and pushed some hard packed gravel around. it worked pretty good but I would like to fabricate the part number 7706 long lift link. from the drawing this looks wicked simple...just a piece of flat stock with some 1/2 inch holes for a hitch pin or bolt. has anyone tried this? Duff 206 #15 Posted July 15, 2008 Hi, Matt, and ! I've got your machine's older brother in the form of an '89 312-8 along with two "green tractors". Let me tell you up front that the Horse is twice the machine feature for feature, and it's become my favorite by far!   Somewhere down the road you'll probably end up like the rest of us looking for another one (or more!) to keep it company. These tractors grow on you...fast! Again, , and a great bunch of folks who really love these red tractors! And BTW, I've got an F-150, too! Solid truck!
