K181 motor issues

I have a B80 with a grey K181. Motor doesn't look to have many hrs.

After running 45mins it just dies, can restart with 3/4 choke just to

get to the barn to rest. The next day it starts right up and

does the same thing over.

While reading the forum and try different ideas other people had,

such as rebuilt fuel pump, reroute new gas line to go under shroud,

took carb off and cleaned and checked gas cap.

I was going to take carb off and clean again. I was wondering if

I'm missing something and if someone has any other things to try.

Thanks I'll check to see if the float is sticking or pin holes.

I'm also going to check points and plug today. I'll have to

wait till Tues. to check condenser and coil.(stores closed)

Thanks again for input. I'm reading in this forum others are

having similar problems.

May be the coil I had one do that. As soon as it got hot it would quit. Could also try a new condenser while your at it.

its a really good word of advise to have an in line spark tester,when the prob happens test for spark right away,it can save buying electrical parts unnesasarily

Thanks to the both of you! You guys had me start looking spark andcoil

I regap plug and cleaned and readjusted points. Parts where still closed.

I am holding my breath it ran for over one hourwith no problems. Still not

totally convinced, but it's a start in the right direction. Will test later in week.

Check the vent hole in the gas cap. Ive seen them get pluged it will run till it cant suck anymore gas out of the tank. Easy test is when it dies take the cap off and try to start it.

Spark tester is a good start, and very economical. I agree with some of the others, that the condencer, and/or coil maybe getting overheated. A new set of points/cond. is part of a cheap/ typical tune up anyhow. If it starts back up on choke only, perhaps the carb is set too lean, getting things a bit hotter than they might normally get. If the float has a hole in it, I would tend to think you'd be flooded out on a pretty consistant basis, and have a hard time keeping it running. If you don't see puddles, (or really thinned out full crank-case), I'd say the float is prob. fine. If it was sticking, you should be able to feel it when you have the bowl off. Keeping the gas cap off will also eliminate vapor lock. I've read where the gas line routing could make this happen. Good luck either way. With a little patience and perserverence, you'll get it fixed. The K181 is a great motor.
