GT14 Tach-A-Matic

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I recently acquired a '69 GT14 that I primarily plan (so far) to move a boat trailer in and out of a garage. It's a very tight squeeze that I need to do frequently. It would be much easier if the ball hitch was on the front of the tractor. Some guy on ebay is selling a ball hitch mount that locks into a front tach-a-matic bracket. It looks like just what I'd need. I just don't know if front tach-a-matics went back as far as '69. If not, does anyone know of one that is easily adaptable. I certainly appreciate your time and response. Rick

I have a front hitch on my gt-14 and all of my wheel horses. It is the way to go. My gt-14 is a 1973 and the tack-o-matic fit right on. A man in R.I. makes a good front hitch. He is on e-bay. russ

The GT14 did not come with the attachamatic from the factory, well at least over here. The dealers made them if the customer wanted one. The GT14 frame is 8 1/2" wide and the standard WH frame is 7 1/2". You can modify the conversion kit if you want or snag a stanard one and fab some mounts and spacers to fit the GT frame. Here is a couple of pics of mine. It came on one of my GTs and was made by the dealer back in the day.

My son and I recently fabed up front suitcase weight brackets for my 71 GT14's. we used some 1/4" thick 2 " flat steel that bolt onto the GT14 frame. Welded a 3" x 5" piece of angle iron to them with a couple short pieces of 1" square stock welded to the flat stock under the angle iron for re-enforcement. You could easily just weld a piece of flat stock across the front and drill it for a hitch ball. Unless you want to use the Attach-a-matic for something else besides the hitch this would be cheapier. Otherwise you'll spend money for the attach-a-matic, fabbing it to fit the GT14, plus buying the hitch that goes in the attach-a-matic.
