B-100 or Commando 800

Recommended Posts

Both listed locally (sort of) and about the same price. B-100 is a

1974 - hydro, Commando listed as 1972 - 3 speed. Have only seen pics - look to be in similar condition. Both have the mower decks with them and the B-100

has a plow/dozer blade. Any pros/cons on either of these models? Is one

considered a better or more versatile tractor than the other?

The B-100 is probably more "user-friendly" and has a much heavier built engine with 2 more horsepower. Unfortunately, the extra horsepower will be absorbed by the hydro transmission. B)

Make sure you "work test" the hydro -- meaning get it up to operating temperature and try to pull something with the tractor or climbing a grade. Listen for any LOUD whining noises and see if you notice any slippage.

A lot of it will depend on what you want to do with the tractor you purchase.

Thanks, TT. I've been looking for awhile, and I'll probably be looking to push a little snow, maybe break some ground at times. I have two tractors for cutting but I really want a WH for some of the other tasks. I've been trying to hook up with some owners who have C series (to hopefully buy), but we can't seem to make the connection. I think I'll go test drive these two and see how they do.

Thanks

The B-100 will have the 12" rear wheels which are easier to get weights and chains (and tires) for.

Although they aren't exactly a C series, they are very similar in most respects, and parts are out there if you need to make repairs. The B-100 also has the ability to comfortably run a 42" mower deck, and since it has the dozer blade included in the deal, you should be all set for snow removal.

I agree with TT on the B-100. But follow his advice and test drive the hydro. If it tests out okay, and the engine runs good, I would go with the B-100, especially you want one to push snow and it has the snow plow already. B)

I gots the bad memory here but in the B vs C post it was said 74 and 75 B-100 auto had the medium frame? If the B-100 auto has a medium frame it would only handle the 36" deck same as the Commando 800. B)

I realy liked my commando 800. And if the lighter duty 4 speed fails it was an easy swap to an 8 speed. I installed 3 rib tires on the front and used it with a mid grader a lot.
