Suburban 400#3 (not 10 Matt)

Here is a 400 that I had to pick up today at the show in Somers. Guys stopped by and saw my tractors and said he had one like that, He asked if I would be interested in buying it and you know the rest. Less than a mile up the street on the way home from the show and here she it... The rear needs work but looks pretty complete. One thing I am confused on is the decal. it looks to be a 401/551 sticker on a 400? Looks original to me?

Nice score! I like the tread pattern on the rear skins. Those aren't WH weights are they?

Mike,

I love the rear tires too. They are in great condition as well. The wheel weights are cast not sure what brand? It came with a second set of rears (ags) but one is cut in the sidewall :banghead: . It also came with a like new set of rear wheel chains. :happy-partydance:

And what some of you may not is Steve was a "purist" Black Hood collector when he first started and hated Round Hoods!

Nice looking machine Steve! And funny...."not 10". I've actually really cleared out in the past few weeks. Even my father said the other day that my garage is more open than he's ever seen it. All the WH's are still here though. I might try to add another old car to the stable this week. Will keep you posted :)

Well after a good carb cleaning/rebuild, new fuel line and filter I got her fired up and she runs real well. The rear end will have to come apart at some point and figure out what is going on in there. That will have to get in the to do list line...

Vin,

It shifts into all gears pretty smooth but when you push it in neutral it will freewheel for 3-5 ft and then lock up, shift it into gear, roll it back then neutral and will roll 3-5ft then lock up again. I am downloading a few videos of it running and will post soon-

My guess is one of the gears is stripped so when you move it things are getting out of sync causing it to lock up. this was the culprit causing mine to lock up. You might get lucky and it might not be this.

Steve, nice suburban but you have a typo in your post heading because you forgot to add a "0" after the "4". If this isn't your 10th suburban, then it must be your 40th. You're welcome!
