mrc 960 #1 Posted May 3, 2012 hi guys, i just finished fixing up an older C-series with a tiller for my friend RC. this C series was a 78 or 79. gas tank under seat kind of C series. the PO had a cable running from the mid rockshaft thru the tube above the unidrive. then it had a special long link with some links of chain which then attached to the tiller. lifting the tiller was possible but, heavy. i recently purchased an early C series with the gas tank under the hood. this tractor had a clevis hitch. it had the same type of cable but, it had a bellcrank? kind of thing which attached to a shaft in the support bracket that holds the fender and seat on. seems this would help with leverage??? i noticed that my 400 series tractors do not have the holes in the gas tank support bracket for this bellcrank either. so my question is: was this tiller hooked up properly to the 78 C-series or is there something i missed??? is there some way to make it easier to lift the tiller??? thanks mike in mass. dennist 139 #2 Posted May 3, 2012 Mike, I will really be supprised if there are no holes in your 400 series for support for the bellcrank, as I have taken apart many and all have had the holes there. Maybe take the seat pan off and you will see the holes better. I have never used the tiller without the bellcrank, so no help there. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Kelly 1,033 #3 Posted May 3, 2012 As far as I know all the tank supports have the holes, I've tore lots of them apart and ALL had holes, I can tell you the early style bellcrank will not fit the newer tractors you need one for a tractor with the tank under the fender, the other one only fit the tractors with the tank under the hood with the soild mounted fenders, not the one the fenders flip up, so only 76-77 machines.
