psjoe 1 #1 Posted April 27, 2012 Hi guys- I found a Toro Wheelhorse 268h for sale locally. It is clean with 330 hours, 48" mower deck, and pto driven vac with double bagger. Not too much info on this model. I understand the hydro trans may be the weak point. What should I look for with the trans or other items on this tractor? Seller is asking $1500, thoughts? Thanks - Joe
SNYFIX 13 #2 Posted April 27, 2012 Offer $800. to $1,000. and tell the owner to smile all the way to the bank !!
jimt1971 237 #3 Posted April 27, 2012 Joe, I saw that tractor on Craigslist. It is of the newer variety. The attachments for that tractor will be harder to find as will the parts. My opinion is a 300 series would be a better buy. Jim
psjoe 1 #4 Posted April 27, 2012 Thanks Jim- I just moved and now have 3 acres to mow. I was looking for something that my 12 yr old daughter could help me mow with. My thought was that the hydro would be easy for her to use, and the 48" deck was a good size.? Any info on the hydro? I have no experience with this machine, is it like the newer tractors in that when you release your foot the unit pretty much brakes itself? -Joe
AMC RULES 37,211 #5 Posted April 27, 2012 If safety is a concern, a machine with a hydrostatic transmission should be perfect for your daughter.
546cowboy 302 #6 Posted April 27, 2012 Yes the foot control will stop when you release the pressure. The $1500 is too high for that tractor in my opinion. I had a 269H that I just sold for $1250 that had a new hood, new battery, new seat, 20hp. Kohler, a 52" recycler deck and a 42" snow plow, Hydro lift, tilt strg. wheel and cruise control. It had 418 hours on it. Many manufacturers now use that Tuff-Torq hydro. Changing the drive belt is a major operation and not for the mechanically challenged. psjoe 1 #7 Posted April 28, 2012 Passed on it. Went to look at it today, it was not for me. I think I am going to look for a nice 300 series as Jimt noted.
zieg72 209 #8 Posted April 29, 2012 My 269H was a great tractor. I really towed a lot behind with a huge trac-vac and it didn't hurt the hydro one bit. Mine was the 1996 model. The only weak point is the steering IMO. Implements are harder to come by than the 300-500 series stuff but they are showing up a bunch more, now that I sold mine.
