LITHIUM GREASE????

Recommended Posts

WH252-H

I wasn't sure where to post this.

I have 4 tubes of lithium grease. They came with a deal 2 years ago but I don't use it because I'm just not sure if its interchangeable with multi pupose or high temp grease.

I was just looking at the oil/lube file and it stated to use lithium grease for the grease fittings.

Would someone explain the basic difference and which is better? Is lithium better for cool or hot situations or low or high speed, etc.?

I don't want to sqirt a bunch of lithium in something it shouldn't be in! (that doesn't sound right)

Thanks

Check this out. It depends on what additives are added as to what the grease is best used for.

Definition

Lithium grease is a thickener used to thicken oil content. Once it has thickened it is a "grease" and no longer an "oil."

Household Uses

Lithium grease is a lubricant. It may be used inside the household. It is used on sliding doors, windows, hinges, garage door tracks and chains.

Automotive Uses

Lithium grease can also be used on automobiles. It lubricates and protects car door hinges, locks, battery terminals, break linkages, springs, gears, bearings, seat tracks and window regulators.

Makeup

Different brands of lithium grease add different quantities of substances to make a unique mixture. The components of the mixture are differing quantities of lye soap, mineral oil, diester oil, polyatomic ester oil and silicone oil.

Spray

Lithium grease is also sold as a spray. The spray may be used in the household or for garage or mechanic purposes. It may be water and heat resistant and stop rust from forming as well as being a lubricant.

I don't use it in bearings, only for wear items the rub or touch, it melts pretty fast I would not use it on a deck.

OK,

Then what DO you use on the mower bearings and mule drive bearings, and other things that spin really, really fast?
