Prater 75 #1 Posted April 12, 2012 My D180 Engine will run like a champ at the repair shop but as soon as I bring her home she does not want to run good. fresh gas, carb rebuild, new filter and she still does not run good after heating up. There is a distinct miss and pop in the engine at full RPM and it progressivly gets worse with a few puffs of white smoke out the exhaust. Maybe a valve? Whats the easiest way to check the valves? I have replaced the points and condenser, new coil and even swapped the coil with another 482 that purrs like a kitten. Guess I may just have to do a motor swap... Kelly 1,028 #2 Posted April 12, 2012 Maybe a intake leak, after it warms up the alum. and iron heat and expand at different rates, try spraying carb cleaner at the base of the intake where it meets the block see if it makes the engine run different.

MarkPalmer 80 #4 Posted June 15, 2012 Have you downloaded the K482/532/582/662 service manual? In section 8.1 it describes how to check and adjust the valve tappet clearances for these engines. http://igor.chudov.com/manuals/Kohler-K662-Engine-Manual.pdf -Mark-
