No, I used just regular cold rolled 1/2 inch stock. Bending is not a problem, so long as you weld one end first. You can use big C-clamps or Vise-grips bend it just enough to tack in place, move the clamp, and repeat. Any sharp bends like at the very center can be pre-bent "sorta" close beforehand. Also, just weld about a 1/2 to one- inch bead every 3-4 inches, so any water or clippings can fall through.

I have seen rebar used, but it does not look factory.
