New addition to the herd, sickle bar and 16HP Kohler

Hi,

Yesterday I went looking for a 16HP Kohler engine that was localy for sale. The engine is in rough condition and is a little stuck. The thread in the sparkplug hole is stripped and it has a special homemade adapter on the carb to run it on propane. BUT, I knew if he had a Kohler motor from a WheelHorse he also might have the WH and maybe some attachements. So I asked for it and he said he had a WH sickle bar! He got my attention immediately. He said if I bought the engine, 30 bucks, I had to take the sickle bar with it! Offcourse I got it as this is extremely rare to find over here.

Only he threw away the pulley system 3 weeks ago, BUMMER! It also has a rim mounted on the side of it which isn't original but the rim is. It fits my tub cart. Oh well it looks awesome and in great condition so I'm happy with it.

I need to figure out what model sickle bar this is and what year it was made. I'll also be looking for the parts to make it complete. If anyone has any parts for sale let me know.

There are a few model numbers it could be. The oldest are the SMS-42, 42-A, 425 and 505. There was an SML-505 and later models 7-1311 and 7-1321.

I hope you or a Redsquare member can find the mounts for you.

Congrats P.J.! I have a 16hp on a C-160-8 and love it.

I also have a sickle bar on a 953 and love it too.

Can't help you with the model number but it looks like the sickle bar was modified a little. The round rod that sticks up near the gear box( usually called a wobble box) should be at the other end of the bar. It is used so you can see where the end of the bar is when it gets in high grass/weeds. I think the pulley at the end was put on by a previous owner to act as a wheel of some kind.

Nice!!! I would kill for that sickle bar mower...actually any sickle bar for a horse. I missed out an SK 286 2 years ago with a nice Haban sickel on it....missed it by hours

All of you thanks for the nice comments! I'm very happy to have that sickle mower in my (small) collection. I hope to find all the parts for it to make it complete.

Also the Kohler 16HP looks to be a runner, it only needs some cleaning and maintenance. I allready took it apart today and it spins free again (sort of ).
