875 Wheel Horse update.

I worked on my new to me 1965 WH Model T-875 all day Sunday and got it running and adjusted to specs. I didn't feel all that comfy about this tractor by the looks of the old oil crud build up on the engine block and someone wrote on the dash in black marker to Check The Oil! So I figured it leaked like a siv. But once everything was cleaned, loosened up, unstuck and adjusted, it fired right up with no smoking, knocking or leaks anywhere! I wasn't expecting that! So it runs great and has a nice very low idle which I like on my tractors. I took the mower deck off it for thrashing this around the yard. Ahh I like them WheelAmatics! I have a new seat for it too, ran out of daylight though. I also have to clean the ivory paint off the rear tires from the PO paint job, not too bad though. I'll clean up the paint too it is kind of cruddy in places. The gas cap was the wrong one and it leaked gas all over the place for many years. Now it is on the come back trail for this old automatic beast. I put the correct, one year only front tires on it too, it had some mismatched wide front tires on it when I got it.

Congrats on getting her going! I love those small-block WH tractors.

A word of caution though- NEVER run that (or any other Sundstrand) tractor at less than half throttle. It prevents the hydrostatic from making enough pressure, and will damage it.

That kohler will thank you also for keeping the rpm up as well. They wear a bunch quicker at low rpm.

Thanks for the tips guys! Good to know that. :D That boat seat is funky looking. It is pretty comfy but you sit up too high! I should probably clean the front rims and paint them to match the rears and just thrash it. I may pull a small 1960 Tee Nee Trailer with it around the yard. Put it back to work. Thanks fella's....Keith

Hey Hammerhead,

Good looking tractor. I like looking at my 867 with it all "opened up" like you have yours on the second picture. I would bet any amount of money that the prior owner wrote the "check oil" in majic marker as a reminder for a son or wife when they used it to mow.

Working for a major label stock company, (Avery), where I have access to all kinds of vinyl labels and printers, I placed a bunch of removeable labels on the push mowers, tractors, chain saws and weed wacker to remind my step-sons to "check the oil" or "use gas from the 2-stroke can" or "fill after use", etc.

God I miss those days now and I guess it was a great incentive for them to get an education and get out of the house ASAP.
