Sometimes that's the only way to get close. I have another color tractor that I pulled the plastic fuel tank and it had a date code stamped on it. That and the engine code gave me a pretty good idea of the year of mfg.

The good news with these Wheelhorse tractors, is that year of make generally don't have much of an impact on finding parts since most of the time (IMHO) they used the same parts on different models over the years.

Good luck,

Bill

Kohler Engine K301 . 10 Digit number starting with 15 is a 1985. Just need to be sure It's the original engine. if your trying to ID the Tractor. A Pic would help us to solve it for you.

Regards.

TT

Does 1986 312-8 sound about right? :eusa-whistle:

21-12K802 & 21-12K803 were the only two WH models to use that engine.

Reckon you could be right TT. I'm not sure , but I also think it was one of last K series Models before they started producing/using Magnum series.

What you have is a 1985 or 1986 Wheelhorse 312-8 speed tractor. (Kohler K301).

The serial number makes it a 1985 but the spec number of the engine puts it in the 1986 year class.

Now if the tractor is an old C-series Wheelhorse, then the prior owner put a newer engine in it.

Look in the pictures we have here on the site and see if a 312-8 speed circa 1985 or 1986 looks like your tractor.

Hope this helps.
