Monkalunka 7 #1 Posted April 6, 2012 good afternoon all, well i actually came across a barn fine but, and there is always a but...I cant tell what the heck it is from the pictures the guy sent me or what it might be missing AND if there is way more missing than I can handle. He said that he thought the he bought it around 1960 but i have looked through the gallery and nothing and it seems to be missing part of the hood. HELP!!!!!!!! Ken B 3,189 #2 Posted April 6, 2012 Its hard to tell what is missing but it looks pretty complete. The hood that got cut out is the biggest thing missing. It even has the belt cover and exhaust pipe shield. Maybe a Suburban 400? It looks like it would clean up nice. How much is he asking for it? If the price is right I'd snag it. Monkalunka 7 #3 Posted April 6, 2012 hey Ken thanks for the info...300 is the price one of my father in laws neighbors...I talked to him about it a couple nights ago and he just sent the pics earlier today
bowtiebutler956 650 #4 Posted April 6, 2012 I'm not sure what model it is, but I agree with Ken, if he's not asking to much I'd ****** it up in a heartbeat! I'm sure someone here will tell you exactly what it is soon. Matt :flags-texas:
wallfish 18,239 #5 Posted April 6, 2012 It sucks they cut that hood so you are also missing the throttle and choke cables but besides the hood, it has all of the hard to find stuff.
AMC RULES 37,211 #7 Posted April 6, 2012 I bet the parts are worth more than the asking price. :twocents-twocents:
Jake Kuhn 1,579 #8 Posted April 6, 2012 Chris,I would buy that in a heartbeat. The guard and heat shield alone are probably worth 150. Jake
jcb857 161 #9 Posted April 7, 2012 Nice, I would love to have it.
woodchuckfarmer 333 #10 Posted April 7, 2012 Id grab that up, even with a choped hood....goodluck ...Wayne
rwilson 128 #11 Posted April 7, 2012 it looks like an rj belt guard. doesnt look as triangle shaped as a suburban does. It does have the hard to find parts on it. I know I spent big bucks on a belt guard and exhaust shield.
Ken B 3,189 #12 Posted April 7, 2012 I gave up trying to find exhaust shields. There is a repop fiberglass belt cover on Epay right now with a starting bid of 203 bucks. Good luck with that! I make my own heat shields now now, they don't look totally original but they look decent and they get the job done.
smoreau 658 #13 Posted April 7, 2012 (edited) Its a 400 and $200 tops! no foot rests and hood is chopped. controls missing with the missing hood piece. no optional rear fenders. so I wouldn t go over 2 but try for $150 Here is mine Ok you guys are right on the belt cover, so I take it back and it could be a RJ58, but is the air cleaner right? clintonnut 126 #14 Posted April 7, 2012 If it has the original pull starter and maybe a serial sticker I'd say $225 Charlie
rwilson 128 #15 Posted April 7, 2012 Ken I didnt spend that much on the tractor and the guard and shield.
multihobbyguy 35 #16 Posted April 7, 2012 Looks like it may have a rope on the seat to pull start it with. It looks to have original muffler in addition to belt guard and heat shield. It has some nice parts or could be a nice tractor with a hood and some TLC.
wh500special 2,277 #17 Posted April 7, 2012 Looks like a 1960 model 400 to me. I think I spy a cast iron front axle and the decals are '60. Check your PM's... Steve
wallfish 18,239 #18 Posted April 7, 2012 The early production 400s had a belt guard that looked like a cross betwwen the RJ-58 and the later, more triangled version.
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,541 #19 Posted April 7, 2012 That is the correct belt guard. My early model 400 had the NON cross stamped guard which is the earlier model. I think your biggest expense will be finding the correct throttle linkage and not paying over $125-$150 for it.
