Schnacke recoil

Recommended Posts

I'm working on the Schnacke recoil I got with my RJ. I took it all apart to put the new wire rope in it. I had to lightly file the pawls because they were hanging up a little dues to burring preventing the pawls from engaging. It works perfectly until I bolt it onto the motor and then it jams up and wont return. As soon as I take it off it works great again. Obviously something is binding up on it but where? Thanks for any ideas.

I'm not sure if this will help but try this

with the recoil and blower housing bolted on the motor loosen all the srews to the recoil and recoil debis guard

pull on the cable until the pawls engage the nut and center the recoil around the crankshaft

while holding the cable tighten the screws back down on

Brian

also check to be sure the nut is not bottoming out in the pawl retainer and binding the pawl retainer up

I wound up adding a beefy flat washer behind the star washer and the long nut to bring the long nut out a tad more, she now works like a charm. I put a new head gasket on the old K-90 and two pulls later she purrs like a kitten!
