Identification help?

Recommended Posts

Pilot78

Since I started my search here in Utah I have come up with 4 wheel horses. 2 RJ58's....one which I will most likely buy. I also found this partial Wheel horse Model??....Year?? A local small engine junk guy had it covered up and wants $125 for it, i offered $100 but he was firm on the $125. No hood, missing large belt guard, 8hp Briggs runs good but (wrong engine), it does have good rear tires and fronts but I don't know if fronts are correct. It also looks like tabs are broken on fuel tank for mounting hood. He did put new bearing and seals in the rear. Should I pass on this or is it a reasonable purchase for parts? Tractor drives good in all gears and reverse. Any input is appreciated.

The motor is definitly not original. I'm gonna guess it was a 1962 702....just a guess tho, I'm not a good round hood identifier.

Well, I am going to stick my neck out here and say you have a 702. The second picture shows where a HY2 would hook up for the lift. The seat is right as are the foot rests and fenders. You also have the bent shifter that would go with the HY2. The engine would be a 7hsp Kohler...electric start. The dash looks right. The serial no. sticker is throwing me here...usually it would be a 62- ####. Looks like a one piece gas tank. If it is not a 62'...maybe 1964.

I am obviously covering myself...waiting for TT to come in here and bust my bubble. :bow-blue::)

Looks like Sparky and I posted at the same time. He He.

That is a 1963 what model not sure a guess would be a 753, or 633, but it for sure is a 63, batt box welded in, 63 up style axle, ect.....

So with what you see in the pictures is it worth the $125 the junk man is asking?

To me yes it's worth $125 but not much more, a nice hood will run about as much as you will be paying for the tractor, if you do buy it, I would be interested in talking to you about swaping some parts.

I'll also go with a 1963 - probably was a 753 or 653 (just because of the presence of an amp gauge and the serial number/shift pattern decal placement)
