redidbull 54 #1 Posted April 2, 2012 This morning I went out and started my 73 No Name. I don't have the choke cable so I work the choke by hand. I close the choke and give no throttle and after a few tries it started up and ran great. Later in the day, however, it didn't want to kick over. I had been told in the past to cover the carb throat and it tried to start but the battery died. I just rebuilt the carb so i am pretty sure the carb still needs adjusting. I kinda went through the procedure on here but I am still wondering if there is anything else I should try? Also when you start the tractor shouldn't the throttle be on full with the choke closed til it starts then open the choke slowly? Thanks for any help. Sparky-(Admin) 23,236 #2 Posted April 2, 2012 I think every tractor has its own personality or quirks Jim. Some of mine need choke everytime and some only when their cold so I dont think there is a certain way they are all supposed to start. That being said on tractors that I dont know I usually try full choke and half throttle to start em. It does sound like the carb needs some tweaking. Give this a read... http://gardentractorpullingtips.com/carbfuel.htm Mike.........
redidbull 54 #3 Posted April 4, 2012 Well found out why it wouldn't start. Out of gas.. My Wife told me to check it first thing but I said no there is plenty in there. I did notice it is leaking somewhere near the carb while running. I think the bowl is loose but didn't have time to check it. Will do probably tomorrow. meadowfield 2,756 #4 Posted April 4, 2012 been there done that !!! mine started with full choke no throttle - I moved it then it stalled. Tried starting again - need more throttle, then it died. Then I tried again, nothing, checked for spark - ok.... then I turned the fuel tap on ! :laughing-rofl:
Duff 206 #5 Posted April 5, 2012 Yup, when I brought my tractors out of winter storage a few weeks ago, the first one started and ran great - for about 15 seconds, then crapped out adn wouldn't start again! Big dumb me....forgot to turn on the fuel! Duff
redidbull 54 #6 Posted May 3, 2012 It is amazing how much better they run with gas. I found the leak was a loose fuel line. I have been experimenting with starting and the 1/2 throttle no choke seems to work. Thanks for the help. Jim
