Hodge71 663 #1 Posted March 24, 2012 I took the 48" mower from my 1996 416 to give to Dad, as the original 42" for his 12 auto is getting rough in a few areas and needs some welding done to it. Put the 48" on last night and got to relive some memories from my youth mowing their acre and a quarter. Its been a long time since I mowed with a thumper and man do I miss the sound of that ol girl working. That thing really sips the fuel too compared to my Onan. I cut the whole yard and about a gallon of gas. I cant cut my front yard with my Onan on a gallon. I'm still smiling this morning...ahhh the simple things
Hydro 130 #2 Posted March 24, 2012 How did the 12 handle the 48" deck Jeff?
Hodge71 663 #3 Posted March 24, 2012 Like the 42",no difference really, and the grass was quite high; especially for March. The only difference is the sound of the blades. The 42" was alot louder because of the huge wide open discharge chute. My deck has the discharge chute turned down instead of wide open. I think the Gator blades make a difference too.
