Moparfanforever 886 #1 Posted March 23, 2012 Hey Guys , Got a few a questions about VR's , and i am a goof when it comes to wiring , multimeters , etc ... , so please be nice !! I have a B-100 Auto and a C-160 Auto with the ribbed style looking VR's , and the B-100's VR is larger than the VR on the C-160. Both have the ring gear starter and stator. 1. What is the difference between the small and larger ribbed style VR's ????? 2. Is it possible to swap the flat , thin style VR's like you see on other Kohlers/tractors ?? I am thinking the flat style would make for a cleaner installation and probably a cost difference ??? I hope eveyone knows what i am talking about without pics. Thanks , Darrell
rmaynard 16,200 #2 Posted March 23, 2012 I've had 3 B-100's. 2 had large ribbed regulators, the other had the small one. Both are compatible with the 15 amp stator. Never had any experience with the flat ones.
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #3 Posted March 23, 2012 The rectifier/regulators without fins are designed to be mounted "through" the blower housing on the engine. There might be exceptions, but the intent was to use the moving air from the flywheel fins for adequate cooling of the R/R.
Moparfanforever 886 #4 Posted March 23, 2012 Terry , Not quite sure what you mean by "through" the blower housing , but the R/R i am talking about is mounted to the upper side of the blower housing Looks to me like that would be a nicer looking installation if that style is compatible to use. , I may have to give it a shot and see if i can work it out. BOWTIE 226 #5 Posted March 23, 2012 HELLO THE TWO RECTIFIERS THAT ARE RIBBED AND HAVE COOLING FINS IS OLDER TECHNOLOGY. THE LARGER RECTIFIER IS THE OLDER UNIT. REPLACED THE THE SMALLER UNIT ON K SERIES KOHLERS. THE FLAT ONE IS USED ON THE M SERIES KOHLERS AND MOUNTED ON THE BLOWER HOUSING. YOU CAN USE THE FLAT DESIGN ON K SERIES BUT YOU WILL NEED TO KEEP IT COOL SOMEHOW. HOPE THIS HELPS. BOWTIE IN OHIO
