leeave96 487 #1 Posted March 23, 2012 I was mowing with my fine 520H this evening for about an hour and when i went to put the tractor away, I happened to glance down and the volt meter was showing 16 volts or pegged or both! I'm use to seeing a voltage regulator at 14ish, but not 16. Put my ohm/volt meter across the battery while the tractor was running and it tracked the voltage. Sometimes 13.5 and other times up to 16 volts. Is this something I need to be concerned about? Am I about to fry a battery? What is normal voltage while running for these Onans? Thanks!!!!!! Sparky-(Admin) 19,867 #2 Posted March 23, 2012 My Onan 16 did the same thing and was worried about overcharging the battery with the really high voltage. Bought a new/used RR off e-bay and that fixed it. I have no idea what caused it in the first place. Mike...........
boovuc 1,090 #3 Posted March 24, 2012 With a simple volt/ohm meter, (VOM), measure the voltage across the battery while running at idle, medium and full throttle. Compare those results to your dash board volt meter. If it confirms high voltage, you have a charging system issue.
