ahlers 0 #1 Posted March 22, 2012 I have 1969 Charger Electric, 7245. The wires have broken off the electric clutch to short to splice to. Is there a way to get into the clutch to rewire? I have a manual on the tractor but it doesn't show a clutch in detail. Otherwise I need to find a used clutch, 7915?
Save Old Iron 1,571 #2 Posted March 22, 2012 It is possible to split the coil housing from the clutch assy the coil of copper wire forming the basis for the electromagnet will be exposed the wires enter thru the body of the housing new wires can be soldered to the old contacts inside the coil housing (this assy was sandblasted for better clarity) most failures as I understand are from the coil wires detaching on the inside of the body - caused by vibration this clutch was mechanically destroyed by the owner - just for grins I took it apart and was able to separate the clutch from the coil rather easily on a press, For the life of me, I can't remember EXACTLY how I did it. There may be others here who have done this same process and remember in detail how they did it.
Save Old Iron 1,571 #3 Posted March 22, 2012 maybe this will help - pulled this one out of the archives - looks like a grade 8 bolt into the pto shaft threads and a little downward pressure
