dsholler 54 #1 Posted March 18, 2012 have a 87 414-8... and the steering wheel is broken. It is one of those with the vinyl all the way around, but there is a metal ring (at least, I assume it is metal) inside the part where you grip. the ring has broken in two places so the whole thing is just held together with the vinyl, and if you grab that third of the wheel it bends up or down depending on which way you are pushing/pulling. Is there any way to take that apart and repair the ring? Or do I just use it until it drives me nuts and then find a new one?
Kelly 1,033 #2 Posted March 18, 2012 Unless you cut it open to reweld it, there is no fix, I probably have one that style in good shape when your ready to buy one, send me a PM
AMC RULES 37,211 #3 Posted March 18, 2012 Probably could be fixed, doubt it's worth the hassle though. If you're patient, and shop around, they're out there for little money. :twocents-twocents:
MikesRJ 558 #4 Posted March 18, 2012 13" Steering Wheel, Plastic, p/n: 106055
rmaynard 16,371 #5 Posted March 18, 2012 I am assuming from the description that your wheel is the soft type. The above mentioned part number is for a hard plastic type. There is a soft type listed for your 1987 414-8 with a part number of 102715 but it is twice the cost of the 106055. If Kelly does not have what you need, you can always search eBay. I agree that trying to repair it is going to be a hassle with less than desirable results.
