fourwheels0 191 #1 Posted March 12, 2012 sorry guys but i'm just a little bit peived. after trying many belts from TSC i've come to the conclusion that they suck!!!!!!!!!!!. either too short or too long. i have yet to find one that fits a c-160,c-120,1973 model 14 (these should be the same belt OEM #7473)or c-81. all 8 speeds. my local wheel horse dealer's are useless (they tell me over a month to get one). i buy and sell a lot of tractors and need to find a good reliable source to get belts. the search continues. rant over haha. whc160 80 #4 Posted March 12, 2012 I get mine for my 160's at NAPA part #5l820w and it is a heavy duty belt.
squonk 43,939 #5 Posted March 12, 2012 7473 crosses to a Napa 5l820w which is 5/8" X 1/2". I can't believe a 1/2" would make such a difference as one too long and the other too short. Did you check and make sure the belt in the package had the right # on it? Someone could have returned it and put it in the wrong sheave. I used to work at Napa and it happened a lot. I just bought a TSC belt for my mower deck and it fit perfect.
fourwheels0 191 #6 Posted March 13, 2012 thanks i'll try out napa.
smoreau 658 #7 Posted March 13, 2012 I find oem belts on evil bay, then check with my local dealer and if the price is cheaper online I will get it there. if not I get them from the dealer. I have a spare for all the tractors and some cover more then 1 tractor. Nothing fits like original equipment belts, and nothing last longer then oem. my :twocents-twocents:
kloe0699 12 #8 Posted March 13, 2012 I just picked up 2 oem drive belts from my dealer. They were cheaper than I could find them online. I have tried other belts before but the oem ones always seem to work best. Just my opinion.
can whlvr 994 #9 Posted March 13, 2012 one month from the dealer, they dont want your buisness very badly,im in canada and i get a belt in a week,1 day if i drive to the warehouse myself(my dealer lets me pay them and go to toro wamrehouse and pick it up myself if im in a rush)
kloe0699 12 #10 Posted March 13, 2012 Things are different everywere I guess. My closest dealer is an hour away, before I go there I call a few days ahead with a list of part numbers. They usually have what I need in stock. If not it's there the next day, before I get there of course.
Kelly 1,033 #11 Posted March 13, 2012 No OEM belts are ok for decks and other stuff, but I've found for a stick shift tractor the OEM belt is the only way to go, might cost a few $$ more than the TSC belt but if it fits right the first time and you take care of it, it will last for years and years figure the factory belt on it probably lasted 30 years + - a few
chris hall 5 #12 Posted March 14, 2012 i bought a 7473 belt at my toro dealer and it lasted only one season. i guess it grew alittle somewhere. i have never bought anything but factory belts but, this makes me wonder.
ericj 1,579 #13 Posted March 14, 2012 I've use Goodyear belts with no success like stated earlier wheel horse used 1/2 size belts. the only belts that i had any success with other than o.e.m. was the blue belts. I had a 310-8 that had belt problems. so i bought a brand new o.e.m. only to have the tractor eat my $30.00 plus belt, ouch!!!!. i replaced the idler, even though it didn't seem bad and put a blue belt on it and never had a problem with it again, it is still on the tractor and gets used. eric

fourwheels0 191 #16 Posted March 17, 2012 well i got a belt from napa the 5L820w and it fit perfect. amazing how 1 82 inch belt won't fit and another will. i'll never go back to TSC again.
MaineDad 87 #17 Posted March 17, 2012 Glad it worked out. I use Napa for almost everything...
squonk 43,939 #18 Posted March 18, 2012 I sold those "W" series belts for 10 years at Napa. They are indestructible. Every time some one bought one and returned it because it broke I had them bring the deck in. If I couldn't find something wrong with the deck they got their money back plus another belt. I never had to give one away. I still bet that TSC belt was either marked wrong on the belt or in the wrong package.
SNYFIX 13 #19 Posted March 18, 2012 Is your engine tight on the base ?? OEM belts are the best because for one, the factory designs/builds the tractor and then the belt manufacturer makes a belt to fit so many belts are fractional in size. Next is the aftermarket belts won't have the cords in them for strength especially needed for the friction heat generated by mowing for example.
squonk 43,939 #20 Posted March 18, 2012 The Napa "W' series green belts and the TSC Blue belts have Kevlar cords. How much strongrer do you want them? :scratchead:
SNYFIX 13 #21 Posted March 19, 2012 The Napa "W' series green belts and the TSC Blue belts have Kevlar cords. How much strongrer do you want them? Not the "strength" per se but how they "stretch out" and wear under the friction/heat demands of mowing. Obviously dull blades/heavy/wet grass/pulley drag puts a lot of demands on a cutting system.
