Guest skinner #1 Posted March 8, 2012 Hey All, I was wondering...does anyone know what's wrong when the starter motor runs well but it makes a howling noise - kind of like the old Model T "ooga" horn sound while it engages the flywheel? I have an old K321 on my 14 automatic that is very loud like this when you turn the key. I always thought this was normal for the old engines until I went to the show in PA. Mine is very different. It sounds like I'm choking a large animal to death, but then the engine fires and it goes away. It works fine, just ear grating noisy -almost as bad as running your fingers across a chalk board. Is there a grease I can buy? What can you lube on these? Any cautions about getting grease anywhere near the flywheel? Could it be the bearings on the starter? thanks, Greg
wheelhorse656 20 #2 Posted March 8, 2012 Just spray rear and front bearing you will have to take the starter apart while you do that clean it out. and it will probly go away. I am sure TT will have more advise......
